West Ham’s defeat gives Spurs hope of survival in EPL

  LONDON: West Ham United’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford offered Totte­nham Hotspur a lifeline in the battle for Premier League survival on Saturday. Spurs remain in the relegation zone, two points from safety, but can move out of the bottom three with victory at Aston Villa on Sunday after the Hammers succumbed to just their third defeat in 11 league games. Brentford boosted their chances of European qualification for the first time with a first win in eight matches.

MOTORSPORTS: THE FORMULA FOR SPEED

  It was in 2008 that the Brazilian Grand Prix saw the British race driver Lewis Hamilton winning his first Formula One title while also becoming the youngest ever Formula One world champion in the history of the sport. In doing so he also ended a 12-year drought for the UK in the World Championship. The last time they had won here was in 1996 when Damon Hill won in his Willams-Renault with Jean Alesi of France second in a Benetton-Renault and Michael Schumacher of Germany third in a Ferrari. Ex-F1 driver turned Paralympic legend Alex Zanardi dies aged 59

 Alex Zanardi, the Italian Formula One driver who became a Paralympic champion after losing both legs in an accident, has died aged 59, his family announced on Saturday. Zanardi was one of his country’s most loved and respected sportsmen, credited with helping transform the perception of disability in Italy.
